Call and describe the water
Say what you can see and hear right now: where the water is, which fixtures still work and whether you managed to close the main.
From the first phone call to the moment the water is back on, here is what a Denver Urgent Plumber visit looks like in a Denver home and what you can usefully do while you wait.
Say what you can see and hear right now: where the water is, which fixtures still work and whether you managed to close the main.
Give the full address plus gate, alley or basement access details. Move what you can away from the wet area without touching live outlets.
The plumber traces the fault, explains what failed and gives an upfront price for the repair before starting work.
Water is turned back on under supervision, the repair is tested at pressure and you are shown what was replaced and what to watch.
The most valuable thing you can do is stop the water. In most Denver homes the main shutoff is in the basement or crawl space where the supply line comes through the front foundation wall, usually within a few feet of the meter. There is also a curb stop out at the street, which the utility normally operates. If you have never found yours, look now rather than during a flood.
After the water is off, open a low faucet such as a basement sink or a laundry tub to let the pressure out of the system. Keep away from standing water near outlets, the electrical panel, the furnace or the water heater, and do not run appliances in a wet room. If a gas water heater is involved and you can reach its gas control or its breaker safely, turning it off protects the unit; if you cannot do it safely, leave it and tell us.
Then write down what you saw. Which fixtures still work, when the problem started, whether anything froze, whether a drain has backed up before. That short list shortens the diagnosis more than anything else you can do.
